[What We Do]
If you’ve flipped through the manifesto, you’re in the know on the ‘why’ – and what it means to Live a Better Story and End Water Poverty.
If you’re here, you’re wondering what we actually do, which is a good question to be asking. Here’s our official mission:
SECOND MILE WATER EXISTS TO BRING A PERMANENT END TO THE
WATER CRISIS IN THE DEVELOPING WORLD BY INSPIRING PEOPLE
TO SOCIAL ACTION.
If we break it down, the first part of what we do focuses on permanently ending water poverty in the areas in which we work. We come alongside disadvantaged communities and help them gain permanent access to clean, safe drinking water. Sometimes that means repairing defunct systems on a small scale, and other times it means helping a community gain access to water for the first time on a large scale.
We facilitate this process on a local level – we don’t come in and do the process – install the systems, etc. The communities and regional government utilize local labor, local expertise, local supplies, and the help of Second Mile Water to facilitate the entire process.
So, in short, we help disadvantaged people in the developing world gain access to clean, safe drinking water. To find out a little more about the process, go here!
The other half of our mission is all about how we engage people to live a better story in the process of doing this – go here to find out more, and grab a few friends and join the 2MW MOB to see what it’s all about!
